Casa de Covés, built in 1932, stands on the foundations of a building more than a century old. Since its beginnings, this house has been a home full of life and history.
In 1908, José Antonio Varela López and María Josefa Herva Varela, natives of the parish of Andrade, settled here after getting married. Their five children were born in this house, which was the center of family activity for three generations. Life in Casa de Covés revolved around agriculture, livestock farming and the occasional sale of wood from the surrounding mountains, reflecting the self-sufficiency and industriousness of its inhabitants.
In 1949, Juan Varela Herva, one of the sons, married Nicolasa Leira Fernández and they continued the family tradition in Covés until 1966. Since then, the house fell into disuse. José, one of Juan and Nicolasa's sons, along with his wife Luisa, decided to sell it to prevent it from ending up abandoned and to be able to give it a new life with another family, and that's where we appeared.
An interesting historical fact is the proximity of an old chapel, ordered to be built by the archbishop of Santiago, Don Bartolomé Rajoy y Losada, in the 18th century. This chapel, although it no longer exists, represents a link to the past and the stories that have shaped the region.
Today the house has been completely renovated to offer a unique experience, combining rich history and modern comforts in a spectacular natural setting. Come and discover the serenity and charm of this place full of stories and beauty.
